Lollipop loves SPCA
Lollipop loves SPCA.....
Lollipop was just sitting there as usual in my lap at a table outside Starbucks in Stafford Market Place when she suddenly pitched a happy fit. My little old Yorkie recognized a friend coming down the sidewalk.
A great big human boyfriend she hadn’t seen in years. Yet she recognized him before I looked up and saw him myself
He saw us and rushed to embrace Lollipop once again. A lot of time had passed since my Yorkie had licked Bill Hoyt. It was a happy reunion.
He used to run Fitness University in Aquia Towne Center before selling the business to Sport and Health. His facility was just a few steps from my all-time favorite coffee shop, Gargoyles (RIP, along w ith most other businesses since leveled in the shopping center‘s renovation project).
Anyhow, Gargoyles was a great place for me and Lollipop to visit. Early on, Bill came in, spotted my puppy, and made a bee-line towards her. From then on, he was her slave whenever we met at Gargoyles and elsewhere. Lollipop’s joyful recognition=2 0of Bill that morning at Starbucks years later tells me he’s nuts about dogs, and not just Lollipop, who reciprocated his affection once again.
I have since learned of his intention to establish an SPCA facility in Stafford, as soon as he gets it approved by the Stafford supervisors.
Bill must be following his heart, demonstrating his continuing love for pets like Lollipop. I expect also that that he’ll be a good operator of the new facility.
He got plenty of experience in running a complex business enterprise as founder and owner of Fitness University for several years in the past. A former employee of Bill’s for over five years still speaks highly of his business and personal skills, saying they are still good friends.
I know there are downsides. There was an incident back then when Bill confronted unruly kids misbehaving in Aquia Towne Center and took matters into his own hands. He was never one to back off from a problem. He got charged for laying hands on them to teach them a lesson.
His political foes hyped that inc ident when Bill became a candidate for county sheriff several years ago against incumbent Charley Jett, and predictably lost handily. Anyone would have, considering Charley’s continuing popularity and the excellence of his deputies.
From what I now understand about Bill’s proposal for the SPCA facility, it would be state of the art and needed in Stafford,
Predictably his proposal has drawn flak from several home owners near the facility. Any planned siting of a facility for animals stands to raise alarms from neighbors. I too would certainly complain regardless of its merits generally.
So his specific plans have been vetted thoroughly by friends and foes alike in hearings and such, although neighbors charge he hasn't answered all their questions..Nevertheless, I’d say he’s ready and anxious to make his new business work well, just as soon as the supervisors give him the green light. I hope they do.
Lollipop will bark and I will cheer when that happens.
